Low speed accident, about 10 MPH. I was pulling into a job site, and the neighbor across the street was backing out of her driveway. I don’t know how you miss an Avalanche but she slammed into the back of me, even after I laid on the horn.

She admitted fault and said she simply wasn’t paying attention, and had the radio on. Said she was so used to the house being vacant that she didn’t expect anyone to be there. Her Kia hit me hard enough that it pushed the passenger side bumper into the quarter, broke my back up sensors, and smashed the tail light.

Honestly the truck is fixable, I’m just amazed that someone would come flying out of their driveway that fast without looking. She came all the way across the street, and into the drive way I was in. The only thing I kept thinking was that the people buying this house have two little kids, and it could have easily been them playing in the driveway.

A friend of mine was going slowly down a residential street, someone drove out of their driveway, forward, and ran head-on into him, claims he didn’t even notice him until he’d already hit him. People are insane.

didn’t expect anyone to be there

That’s one hell of an assumption.

I felt like kind of an ass, but the first words out of my mouth weren’t “Are you okay?”, but were “How did you not see me?!”.

Being nice is good and all, but some people need a wake-up call. Unfortunately she will probably keep doing the same thing after a week or two

I had a run-in with one of these folks in my old Civic. I was following some guy down a dirt forest road and he was going pretty slow and eventually stopped to read a road sign. I was looking for a turn as well and in no hurry so I stopped behind and waited. He took a minute, so I put the car in park...only for him to reverse into me for a better look before I could even react. I’d been behind him for nearly ten minutes, but he never saw me. Blamed it on me when he hit me, too.

I’m not generally excited for self driving cars but folks like these need them.

A pretty common one, it seems.

Well, that may be the silver lining. Now, thanks to your truck’s sacrifice, she is reminded before the kids arrive not to use that driveway as she backs up.
